Student Success: YellowSidd Creator Daniel Danielecki

Below we catch up with YellowSidd Creator Daniel Danielecki to talk about his Mario style platformer game, YellowSidd.

Daniel DaniekeckWhat tools and technologies did you use to create YellowSidd?

I used HTML 5 and the Quintus framework, although right now I would recommend to everyone wanting to begin the journey of HTML 5 game development to start with Phaser.

What Zenva courses have you taken and how have they helped you?

Up until now only Intro to HTML 5 Game Development – it taught me the basics of mobile and web game development. I also worked through The Ultimate Game Development Course with Construct 2  but haven’t been able to fully use Construct 2 yet.

What was your background before coming to Zenva?

I was in my third year of Information Technology studies, and I had developed simple web pages based on CMS’s, for a couple of years. I was familiar with basic HTML, CSS, JavaScript and some others languages, that I had tried at university, but not used them in game development.

What was the deciding factor to enroll in Zenva courses?

I was fascinated by how programming in web technologies could work in mobile applications like a native.  I was especially interested about performance of this in game apps.

How long did it take you to make YellowSidd?YellowSidd 4

Maybe 2-3 months. Unfortunately I couldn’t devote 100% of my attention to this project.

What advice would you give to some one wanting to make a simple game?

Don’t use Quintus, go with Phaser, it’ll be much better for you! Visit the html5gamedevs.com forum, which is great and there you can look for trends in HTML 5 game development.  Also don’t forget to choose Zenva during your first steps ;-)

What do you plan to do next?

Finish my game based on Phaser, I have the physics, scenes etc., but I want to make it completely 100% Phaser. I need only to implement share/invite friends on Facebook, In-app purchase and ads.

What advice would you give to other students that are taking Zenva courses?

I have only worked through two tutorials on GameDev Academy and 1 Zenva course, so I do not have much experience. For me Zenva’s content looks really great.  I’m fascinated with game courses, and game engines, like Meteor and Babylon.  I didn’t find any better place to learn, then Zenva.  Stop wasting your time looking other content and start learning here now. ;-)
