Simon Jefferies Interview – Creator of The Skies Of Echelon

Here in the GameDev Academy we interviewed Simon Jefferies, creator of the game for iOS and Windows Phone called The Skies of Echelon. Keep reading if you want to know what this great game is about.

Describe what your game is about

Welcome to the world of Echelon. A peaceful place where a race of people trade in the skies above. Everyday cargo is delivered from around the world in order for the Echelonians to live and work.

Your first adventure is to arrive at Eche – a city near the coastal region. You will be the commanders first apprentice who has decided to mentor you on this journey.

You will need to gather your skills and take control of the airships and planes. You will need to deliver the cargo to the bases so that the Echelonians can continue their daily lives.

With 36 levels of action and 6 zones of gameplay, you will need to be ready to take control and deliver cargo!

** Game features different types of airships and watch out for the faster more agile planes.

** And there will be an extra surprise too in the form of pirate airships who are out to steal the cargo from you.

!! Go to it and impress the Echelon Commander !!

Where did the game idea come from?

Looking for something more than what was out there on the market. Wanted more depth.

What can you tell us about the development of the game?

Me (the developer)
An artist and musician.
Two testers.
A group of localisation people 🙂

Took about six months to put together. That included writing my own game engine too.

What is the most important thing you learned when making this game?

Cross platform development and simplicity.

What advice would you tell people who are beginning with game development?

Thrash out your ideas on paper. Think about how the game will flow and build. Depth, fun and character is important. Layout screens with localisation and resolution in mind.

Thanks Simon! We appreciate you took the time to talk with us and our readers. Good luck to you and your game!
